Characteristics of polyphenylene ether (PPO) resin additives include dimensional stability, low water absorption and low creep behavior at elevated temperatures. These additives combine high-heat resistance and inherent flame retardance with very good electrical and insulating properties. They are miscible with polystyrene, which enables them to be blended with materials such as high-impact polystyrene and general-purpose styrene, as well as styrene-based elastomers.
PPO resin concentrates


SABIC Innovative Plastics offers PPO resin concentrates in polystyrene for food packaging or other applications of polystyrene that are injection molded or vacuum-formed. These PPO resin concentrates are tailor-made to meet requirements for both processing temperatures and heat performance in the end application.
PPO/FR resin concentrates have been developed to bring non-halogenated flame retardance to polystyrene compounds. The concentrates consist of medium molecular weight PPO resins combined with a phosphate-based FR system.


PPO/PS concentrates


Properties: Miscible with polystyrene, high-temperature
resistance, optimized for blending with high-impact
polystyrene (HIPS) and general-purpose polystyrene (GPPS), food contact compliant
Potential applications: Sheet/foil extrusion; food packaging; additive in thermoplastics and thermoplastic elastomers, EPS


PPO/FR concentrates


Properties: Non-halogenated FR, high flow, miscible with
polystyrene, high-temperature resistance
Potential applications: Compounding; flame-retardant products, EPS
